Description

This Steak with Beans and Onions is a hearty, flavorful dish that’s perfect for a satisfying dinner. Tender, juicy steak is seared to perfection and paired with buttery caramelized onions and seasoned beans. It’s simple to make but packed with bold flavors, making it a rustic meal that feels both comforting and impressive. Serve it with rice, roasted potatoes, or warm bread for a complete meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Steak:

  • 1 lb (450g) sirloin steak (or steak of choice)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Onions & Beans:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 can (15 oz) white beans, drained and rinsed (cannellini or great northern)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley (optional garnish)

Instructions

  • Season the Steak: Pat the steak dry and season both sides with garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  • Sear the Steak: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the steak for 3-4 minutes per side (for medium-rare), or longer if desired. Remove steak from skillet and let it rest while you prepare the onions and beans.
  • Caramelize Onions: In the same skillet, add 1 tablespoon olive oil and sliced onions. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until soft and golden, about 8 minutes.
  • Add Beans & Seasoning: Stir in garlic, beans, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes until heated through.
  • Slice & Serve: Slice the rested steak into strips. Serve on a plate with the onions and beans on the side. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

  • Enjoy: Serve with rice, roasted potatoes, or crusty bread for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Swap white beans for black beans, pinto beans, or kidney beans for variety.
  • Add a splash of balsamic vinegar to the onions for extra flavor.
  • For a spicy kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a drizzle of hot sauce.

  • This meal works great for meal prep — pack the steak, onions, and beans into containers for easy lunches.
