Ingredients

Scale

Dough:

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) instant yeast
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup warm milk (about 110°F or 45°C)
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

Filling:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder (optional, for extra chocolate flavor)

Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Prepare Dough: In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Add warm milk, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  • Knead Dough: Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for 6-8 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Prepare Filling: In a small bowl, mix softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and cocoa powder (if using) into a smooth paste.
  • Roll Dough: Punch down the risen dough and roll it into a 12×18-inch rectangle.
  • Spread & Add Chocolate: Spread the filling evenly over the dough, then sprinkle with chocolate chips.
  • Roll & Cut: Roll the dough tightly into a log, starting from the long side. Cut into 12 equal slices and place in a greased baking dish.
  • Second Rise: Cover and let the rolls rise for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake: Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Make Glaze: Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle over warm rolls before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate chips.
  • Add chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts for extra texture.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat slightly before serving.
  • Want a festive twist? Add a pinch of nutmeg or a splash of orange zest to the filling.
