Ingredients

Scale

For the Chicken Wings:

  • 2 lbs chicken wings (split into drumettes and flats)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder (for extra crispiness)

For the Sweet and Spicy Sauce:

  • ¼ cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons hot sauce (such as Sriracha or Frank’s Red Hot)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar (or lime juice)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for extra heat)
  • ½ teaspoon cornstarch (to thicken the sauce)
  • 1 tablespoon water (to dissolve cornstarch)

For Garnish (Optional):

  • Sesame seeds
  • Chopped green onions

Instructions

Prepare the Wings:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a wire rack. (For air frying, preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C)).
  2. Season the wings: In a large bowl, toss chicken wings with olive oil, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and baking powder.
  3. Bake the wings: Arrange the wings in a single layer on the baking sheet.
    • Oven: Bake for 40-45 minutes, flipping halfway through.
    • Air Fryer: Cook for 18-20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway.

Make the Sauce:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine honey, hot sauce, soy sauce, butter, apple cider vinegar, garlic, and red pepper flakes over medium heat. Stir and bring to a simmer.
  2. Thicken the sauce: Mix cornstarch with water, then add to the sauce. Stir for 1-2 minutes until slightly thickened. Remove from heat.

Coat the Wings:

  1. Toss the cooked wings in the warm sauce until fully coated.
  2. Serve hot, garnished with sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired.

Notes

  • Extra Crispy Tip: Let the wings sit uncovered in the fridge for 30 minutes before baking to dry out the skin.
  • Mild Option: Reduce hot sauce and red pepper flakes for less heat.
  • Make Ahead: Bake the wings ahead of time and toss them in the sauce right before serving.
